It is important to keep your washing machine’s dispenser drawer clean to prevent any build-up of mould and bacteria. 1. Unplug the machine if you can, or make sure it is switched off at the plug.

2. Locate the dispenser drawer on the front of the machine, typically located at the top left.

It is important to check the user manual of your specific Hotpoint washing machine model for detailed instructions on how to remove the dispenser drawer, as the steps may vary depending on the brand, model and year of manufacture. Additionally, if the drawer is stiff, it is a good idea to check if any of the parts inside dispenser drawers are clogged with detergent or fabric softener, this can help to make it easier to pull out the dispenser drawer.

Tips on getting mould out of your washing machine detergent dispenser

Mould can grow in a washing machine's detergent dispenser if it is not cleaned regularly, or if the machine is not used often. To remove mould from a washing machine's detergent dispenser, you can try the following steps:

1. Following the initial step on how to remove your washing machine’s soap dispenser, make sure it is turned off and/or the power cord unplugged from the power outlet.

2. Clean the dispenser thoroughly with a brush and warm soapy water. A toothbrush or a small brush specifically designed for cleaning dispensers works well. Scrub all the nooks and crannies and make sure to get rid of any visible mould or mildew.

3. Rinse the dispenser thoroughly with clean water and dry it with a towel.

4. Mix 1 cup of white vinegar with 1 cup of water in a spray bottle and spray the solution over the dispenser.

5. Allow the solution to sit on the dispenser for several minutes to help dissolve any remaining mould or mildew.

6. Scrub the dispenser again with a brush or toothbrush, then rinse it thoroughly with clean water and dry it with a towel.

7. Reinstall the detergent dispenser drawer or door back into the machine and make sure it is properly locked.

It is recommended to keep the dispenser clean and dry, and consider using a mould remover solution specifically designed for washing machines, which can be found at most home appliance or cleaning supply stores.

Regularly cleaning the dispenser and running a hot cycle with an empty drum once per month will help keep your appliance running smoothly.  For more washing machine care solutions, check out Wpro Washing Machine Care Kit
